Story

Ferah wants 400 slate arches for spare canal gates before the winter floods. A lock with no spare gate will fail one day.

Once it is done

The spare gates hang greased in the gatehouse. Ferah pats one like a horse. 'Now the canal can break something and still work,' she says.
