While you were away

Your character keeps doing the activity you chose while the game is closed. When you come back, you get exactly what you would have got by watching.

The short version

  • Pick an activity before you close the game. If nothing is chosen, nothing happens.
  • Up to 48 hours count. A longer break still counts as 48 hours.
  • Before you leave, check you have enough materials, healing items, arrows and bank space.
  • When you come back, the Welcome back report shows what you got and anything that stopped the work.

What keeps going?

  • The activity you chose, under the same rules as when you watch.
  • A Rebuild it job on the map keeps going step by step.
  • Potions keep using charges, and tax income keeps coming in.

What can stop it?

  • Running out of materials or arrows.
  • A full bank, when a new item needs a slot.
  • A defeat in a fight.

Once the activity is blocked, it stays blocked until you fix the problem. The report tells you what happened. Your character never picks a new activity for you.

Planning a long break? The overnight guide shows how to stock up.

Is it really the same as watching?

Yes. Time away gives the same result as time spent watching, down to the last coin and the last random roll. The game has a test that checks this on every change.

Moving your device's clock backwards gives you nothing.

Exact numbers

  • The longest break that counts is 48 hours. A mod can change this.
  • Every random roll comes from a numbered list, in order. So eight hours in one go and two visits of four hours land on the same rolls.
  • The Welcome back report lists items gained, XP gained, levels reached, rare drops, new places found, and what stopped the work.
