Mastery
Every activity has its own mastery level, from 1 to 99. The more you do one activity, the better you get at it. Each skill also has a mastery pool you can spend on any of its activities.
The short version
- Doing an activity raises its mastery, up to 99. Each mastery level makes that one activity better. The tables below show how.
- Part of all mastery XP also fills the skill's mastery pool. Open the skill and press Mastery pool to spend it on any activity of that skill.
- At 10%, 25%, 50% and 95% full, the pool gives the whole skill a bonus. Spending below one of those lines turns its bonus off until the pool fills again.
- Every activity at mastery 99 counts toward 100% completion.
Which skills have mastery?
Every skill with its own activities. Defence and Vitality have no activities of their own. They level up from fights, so they have no mastery and no pool.
How fast does mastery grow?
- Longer actions give more mastery XP per action.
- An activity with higher mastery earns more mastery XP per action.
- The more mastery you have across a skill's activities, the faster all of them grow.
- Mastery uses the same XP table as skill levels. See Levels and XP.
How does the mastery pool work?
- Every time an activity gains mastery XP, 25% of that amount also goes into the skill's pool. Once the skill is level 99, it is 50%.
- The pool has a limit. XP that would go past it is lost, so spend it before it fills.
- Spend pool XP from the Mastery pool dialog on the skill's page. 1 pool XP gives 1 mastery XP to the activity you pick. No activity can go past 99.
- The tables below show what each line gives. A bonus only works while the pool stays at or above its line. The dialog warns you before a spend would turn one off.
What does each level give?
An activity's own mastery helps only that activity. The pool bonuses help every activity of the skill. Each skill's page shows the same tables with the pool XP each line needs.
A ranged fight at mastery 99 also gets +10% chance to keep its arrows.
Exact numbers
Each completed action adds this much mastery XP to its activity, rounded down, and at least 1:
( unlocked × total ÷ most + level × activities ÷ 10 ) × seconds × 0.5 × (100 + bonus) ÷ 100 × 1000 ÷ 100
- unlocked: how many of the skill's activities your skill level has opened.
- total: all the skill's activity mastery levels added together. most: 99 × the number of activities.
- level: this activity's mastery level. activities: how many activities the skill has.
- seconds: the activity's base time at your skill level.
- bonus: percent more mastery XP, from the pool's 10% checkpoint.
- 1000: a game setting, the same for every activity. A mod can change it.
Every value is read before the action. The pool holds at most 925,000 XP for each activity in the skill. The chance to spare materials can never go above 60%, from all sources together.
