How fast an action is

Every action takes a set time. Bonuses from places, gear, mastery, potions and stations make it faster. This page shows how they add up.

The short version

  • All speed bonuses for a skill add up to one total percent.
  • +100% speed means twice as many actions per hour.
  • Some King's Road designs slow a skill down. Their minus numbers come off the same total.
  • Fights also get faster with more gear power and the right fighting style.
  • Each skill's Boosts page lists every speed bonus that skill can get.

Where do speed bonuses come from?

  • Rebuilt places. Some make a skill faster everywhere. Others help only while you are there.
  • Gear. Tools and clothes with a speed bonus. High-quality gear gives 1.5× the listed bonus.
  • Mastery. Gathering, Scouting and Town activities get +2% speed every 10 mastery levels. Some mastery pool checkpoints add more.
  • Potions with a speed effect, while they have charges.
  • King's Road stations. Their designs add speed to some skills and take it from others.

Why are fights different?

Two more things shorten a fight's rounds before the speed total counts: the power of your equipped gear, and the style matchup. Using the style the enemy is weak to gives +15% speed. With the wrong style, rounds take 15% longer. See Fighting.

Example

An action takes 10 seconds. A rebuilt place gives +10%. A high-quality tool listed at +20% gives +30%. The total is +40%, so the action takes 10,000 × 100 ÷ 140 = 7,142 ms, about 7.1 seconds.

Exact numbers

Start from the action's base time at your level (its page shows it). Then:

  • Fights only: gear power first. time = time × 100 ÷ (100 + power), rounded down.
  • Fights only: the style matchup. An enemy weak to your style: time × 100 ÷ (100 + 15). The wrong style: time × (100 + 15) ÷ 100. Both rounded down.
  • Every action: the skill's speed total, added up from every source and used once. time = time × 100 ÷ (100 + total), rounded down.

Rounding always goes down, and an action never takes less than 1 millisecond. The total can be below zero when a station design slows a skill more than your bonuses speed it up. Then the action really does take longer than its base time.
